Acquisition
An acquisition is when one company purchases most or all of another company’s shares to gain control of that company.
One of the freshest examples of this term is in today’s Microsoft’s $68.7 billion cash offer for Activision Blizzard. This could be the biggest all-cash acquisition on record in the U.S. and the third or fourth biggest globally deal. When/if it’s completed, Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony.
