Alpha

25 April 2022

A term used in investing to describe an investment strategy’s ability to beat the market or its “edge.”  In other words, it is a way to quantify whether an investment can do so with a single number. For example, an alpha of +3 indicates that a portfolio beat the return of the S&P 500 index by 3 percent over a certain period of time.
